NES is
currently working with the Pigeon Lake Protection and
Rehabilitation District in Clintonville, WI on the
restoration of 400 feet of shoreline vegetation. With
the help of Clintonville City workers and NES
technicians, biolog revetments were installed to
temporarily protect the shoreline, while wave breaks
were installed further out into the lake. These wave
breaks will provide temporary protection for newly
planted bulrush, burreed, pickerel weed and water lily
species. The establishment of a healthy vegetated
shoreline will provide fish habitat and will protect the
shoreline from erosion. To obtain funding for this
project, NES helped the Pigeon Lake Rehabilitation
District obtain a Wisconsin DNR Planning and
Protection Grant. Volunteers from the District are
also involved in collecting water quality data from
tributaries to the Pigeon River. This data will provide
information to help scientists and local government
officials to better manage the watershed. |
