NES
stream and wetland restoration specialists teamed
with Robert E. Lee and Associates engineers to design a
stream relocation project in DePere, Wisconsin. This
project involved the relocation of over 3000 feet of
stream channel. Prior to restoration, the stream had
been channelized and had eroded both vertically and
horizontally (top). Dutchman Creek was moved and more
complex hydrologic features were put in place to provide
habitat for fish and wildlife. Over 6,000 dogwoods,
willows and other tree species were planted in the
riparian zone. Twelve large riffle-pool sequences
(bottom) were installed to help provide habitat and
prevent erosion during large events. |
