Mill Creek Restoration

NES is currently working with Trout Unlimited and the Wisconsin DNR on the restoration of the upper reaches of Mill Creek, a tributary to the Onion River. This project involves not only the reconstruction of stream channels, but also the restoration of forested wetlands.

The restoration area is currently an abandoned aquaculture facility, consisting of a series of excavated holding ponds (top) and raceways (bottom). NES stream and wetland restoration specialists are teaming with DNR biologists and Trout Unlimited volunteers to restore this coldwater habitat to its natural state. Design plans are currently underway, and construction for this project is set to begin in the Spring of 2001.
