Kamrath Creek Stream Restoration

NES is working on an ongoing project with the Wisconsin DNR and Trout Unlimited to restore approximately 2500 feet of Kamrath Creek, a tributary to the Onion River near Plymouth, WI. This project, funded by the Wisconsin DNR Fisheries and Trout Unlimited, involves restoring sections of abandoned stream channel (top) and building other reaches from scratch. Much of the creek's flow was diverted to fill ponds, and over the years, portions of the abandoned channel have filled in with sediment and accomodate only small tributary flows (bottom).

The natural channel design for this project features woody debris, rock weirs and native plantings to establish stable streambanks. The channel bed is constructed of native stone and is designed to provide long-term stability and habitat for all life stages of various coldwater fish species. Construction began in Fall of 2000 and is expected to be completed by Fall of 2001 .
