As a component of an approval process for a proposed municipal development, NES conducted a habitat survey of a 60-acre site, investigating the presence or absence of suitable Henslow's sparrow habitat. The habitat survey indicated the presence of potentially suitable habitat on the site. As a result, NES developed and implemented a study plan to determine if Henslow's sparrows (right) were utilizing the site during the breeding season. Fixed point-count stations were monitored for a ten week period at the proposed development site. Additionally, suitable habitat was sought within an approximate 20-mile radius of the site, where additional fixed point-count stations were established and monitored. |
