The assessment
and restoration of disturbed areas such as mine tailings
basins (above) and forested watersheds (below) require a
variety of expertise. NES has a wide range of experience
related to mined land reclamation. Our scientists have
monitored hydrologic variation and biotic changes on
several projects in Michigan's Upper Penisula. We
have extensive experience in monitoring changes to plant
and animal communities as a result of human-induced
disturbance. Our knowledge of biotic integrity indices
(IBI) and other assessment protocols allow us to
document physical changes, such as sedimentation and
erosion, and biological changes in disturbed streams and
seasonal ponds. |
