Pigeon River Streambank Restoration

NES stream  restoration specialists are in the process of restoring approximately 200  feet of eroded streambank (right) on the Pigeon River near Clintonville,  Wisconsin. This project, begun in the Fall of 2000, involves  bioengineering bank stabilization (below) and incorporates large woody  debris as well as the establishment of native shrubs and wetland plants.

To obtain funding for this project, NES helped the Pigeon Lake  Rehabilitation District obtain a Wisconsin DNR Planning and Protection  Grant. The native riparian buffer is designed to prevent erosion of fine sediments into the river, and the toe protection incorporates root wad structures that provide excellent fish habitat.
